Anand Kumar (born 1 January 1973) is an Indian educationalist and a mathematician best known for his Super 30 programme, which he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002, and which coaches underprivileged students for IIT-JEE, the entrance examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). By 2018, 422 out of the 480 had made it to the IITs and Discovery Channel showcased his work in a documentary. His life and work are portrayed in the 2019 film, Super 30, where Kumar is played by Hrithik Roshan. Kumar has spoken at MIT and Harvard about his programs for students from the underprivileged sections of Indian society. Kumar, and his school, have been the subject of several smear campaigns, some of which have been carried in Indian media sources.

In 1992, Kumar began teaching mathematics. He rented a classroom for Rs. 500 a month, and began his own institute, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics (RSM). Within the span of year, his class grew from two students to thirty-six, and after three years there were almost 500 students enrolled. Then in early 2000, when a poor student came to him seeking coaching for IIT-JEE, who couldn't afford the annual admission fee due to poverty, Kumar was motivated to start the Super 30 programme in 2002, for which he is now well-known.

Every May, since 2002, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics holds a competitive test to select 30 students for the Super 30 program. Many students appear at the test, and eventually, he takes thirty intelligent students from economically backward sections, tutors them, and provides study materials and lodging for a year. He prepares them for the Joint Entrance Examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). His mother, Jayanti Devi, cooks for the students, and his brother Pranav Kumar takes care of the management.

During 2003-2017, 391 students out of 450 passed the IITs. In 2010, all the students of Super 30 cleared IIT JEE entrance making it a three in a row for the institution. Kumar has no financial support for Super 30 from any government as well as private agencies, and manages on the tuition fee he earns from the Ramanujan Institute. After the success of Super 30 and its growing popularity, he received offers from the private sector - both national and international companies - as well as the government for financial help, but he has refused it; Kumar wanted to sustain Super 30 through his own efforts.

From 2008–2010, 30 out of 30 students cleared the IIT-JEE. In subsequent years the pass rates from the 30 students were: 2011 (24 passed), 2012 (27 passed), 2013 (28 passed), 2014 (27 passed), 2015 (25 passed), in 2016 (28 passed), in 2017 (30 passed), and in 2018 (26 passed) the prestigious IIT-JEE examination.

Super 30 Film: Bollywood Director Vikas Bahl casts Hrithik Roshan in an 2019 film titled "Super 30", on the life and works of Anand Kumar. The movie is going to release world wide on 12th July, 2019.

Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the country and attracts several foreigners too every year to its historic forts and majestic palaces. But it is also infamous for the number of haunted places it is believed to have. We’ve already told you you about Bhangarh Fort where the Archaeological Survey of India doesn’t permit people to enter the premises after sunset. I’ve also told you about Kuldhara which is an abandoned village where no one lives. And today we tell you about another haunted place in Rajasthan, the Brijraj Bhavan Palace Hotel in Kota.

A palace that was once home to Major Charles Burton, is a heritage hotel today but is rather infamous for being a haunted property. The story goes that Major Charles Burton was killed here by Indian soldiers during the mutiny of 1857. He was holed up in one of the halls with his two daughters as they looted the palace and then they surrendered after five hours of siege. The soldiers killed all of them and later the British buried their bodies in the fort cemetery with full military rights. The British also reclaimed this property which later became the property of the Maharaja of Kota. But in the ’70s, the government renovated it and it became the Brijraj Bhavan Palace Hotel.

But the property soon became the talk of the town when people began saying that it was haunted by the ghost of British Major Charles Burton. Even though his spirit does not really harm anyone, guards working here have often heard a man’s voice speaking in English and commanding them to not fall asleep or smoke. And if they do fall asleep on duty, the ghost even slaps them to wake them up. This incident has happened with quite a number of guards that have complained. Though guests haven’t had much of a problem here, some have complained of feeling a sudden discomfort in some parts of this palace hotel. Would you like to stay in this hotel?

There are wonderful people in both religion and science but sometimes there are also crooks and nuts on both sides. We are taught that religion is only one thing: realisation. There were some great men of science, like Albert Einstein who did great work but did not over step their mark like some do nowadays.

Superstition is bound to creep up on the practice of religion. When so many people believe in something this is bound to come up. It’s just a part of it. Those whose intentions are good will know what they are thinking and they will be on the right path.

Vivekananda himself was asked this question and he replied by saying that when you talk of things such as superstition all that he could do was argue to prove them wrong. The greatest superstition in this world is for one to think that they are the body, they are the mind and they are the intellect. This is the greatest superstition. It is a foolish way to think. They are not the body, they are not the mind and they are not the intellect.

Everything is “I”.  I am doing this, I am going here. Everything is held up in the body, mind and intellect. This thinking, which is embedded in us all our lives is the greatest superstition. From childhood we are taught that there is a thought, action and then an event. This drives everything. All the great ones say that this is really wrong.

Krishna says that you cannot choose a thought.  You can only be detached from the thought. A thought is an effect. We have always been taught that is a cause but this is not true. It is an effect. You cannot choose it, only be detached from it.

Krishna says the cause of all thoughts is the gunas: sattvic, rajasic and tamasic. They are foes which create the body, mind and intellect. I will give you an example. Let’s say everyone in the world was given a computer with internet connection. There are billions of websites from CNN to sports and entertainment. So Imagine you are approaching the computer you will be told that you can surf any websites that you choose. Every one of the 7 billion people will choose differently.

What is the force behind their choice? What is the force that pushes someone to sports, entertainment, violence or something else? You feel you have a choice but Krishna says you don’t. There is an unseen force that is guiding you. Any action is a moment and that moment is caused by a force. That force is the gunas. Your emotions will decide what site you visit. If you are angry you will be inclined to look at violence. If you are happy you might seek out comedy or entertainment. The thoughts on the surface of your mind will determine what you look at.

Krishna says “with the senses controlled, the mind controlled, with evenness of mind perform work.”  Think of your day and how hard it is to control certain forces like the force of attraction. You cannot force yourself to be attracted to someone nor can you suddenly stop being attracted to someone. It is not our choice and we are not in control of it. The same goes for the other forces such as anger and power.

We cannot change our minds or the minds of others we should just be focusing on renouncing the gunas. Imagine a state of mind where the waves no longer disturb the ocean. It would be such bliss. You would be full or light, joy and appendage because you will be radiating the consciousness.

This superstition is only an illusion that comes from the gunas. Renounce it and you will be happy.

See what Lord Rama proved about superstitions and also what his holiness Sri Ramana Maharshi of Arunachalam (Tiruvannamalai) told about it...

*DEATH AND LIFE BEYOND DEATH!*

What exactly happens after death according to Hinduism?

Journey of death: What happens after we die?

Why are there 13 days after death?

How does rebirth happen?

After death? These kinds of related questions always fill our mind, especially when any of our near or dear ones die. We feel suddenly some relationship has broken abruptly and wish there could be a connection again. In this quest, our journey to find answers to the above questions begins.

*So, what happens after death?*

The prime question in our minds *‘ What happens after death?’* it's actually a very interesting process. People feel death is painful and the journey post is horrifying, where will I go ‘ heaven or hell’. Read on to understand exactly What happens after death.

*Disconnection of the earth sole chakras*

Approximately 4-5 hours before death, the earth sole chakras situated below the foot soles get detached, symbolizing disconnection from the earth plane. Hence, if you notice always before a person is about to die, some hours before that you will find his feet cold. Later when the actual time to depart comes, it's said that Yama, the God of death comes to take away the person.

*The Astral Cord*

Actually, it just cuts the astral cord, which is the cord connecting the soul to the body. Once this cord is cut the soul becomes free of the body and moves up and out of the body. As a soul always loves the body it held, it gets in the body back and tries very hard to move it and stay in it. If you must have seen there is sometimes a very subtle, slight movement of the face, hand even after the person has died, it's actually the soul trying to get in because it can't believe its dead. There is still a feeling of aliveness. But just because the astral cord has been cut, it cannot stay there and is pushed upwards and out of the body. There is a pull from above, *a magnetic pull to go up.*

*End of the physical body*

At this stage, the soul hears many voices, all at a time. These are nothing but the thoughts of those present in the room. The soul on its part talks to his loved ones like he used to do and shouts I am not dead, but alas it cannot be heard. Slowly and steadily the soul realizes that it's dead and there is no way back, then it reaches to approx 12 feet. i.e the height of the ceiling and sees and hears everything happening. Generally, it will be there around the body until it is cremated. So, next time if you see a body being carried for cremation, be informed *the soul is also part of the procession seeing, hearing and witnessing everything and everyone.*

*Detachment from the body*

Once the cremation is done, the soul is complete of the belief that the main essence of its survival on earth is lost, the body it held for so many years has dissolved in the 5 elements. The soul experiences complete freedom, the boundaries it had while being in the body are gone, it can just reach anywhere by mere thought. For 7 days the soul, moves about its places of interest like its favorite joint, morning walk garden, office, etc..If the soul is possessive of his money ,it will just stay near his cupboard, or if he is possessive of his children, it will just be in their room, clinging on to them. By the end of the 7th day, the soul says bye to his family and moves still upwards to the periphery of the earth plane to cross over to the other side.

*The Tunnel*

It's said that there is a big tunnel here which it has to cross before reaching the astral plane. Hence it's said these 12 days are extremely crucial, *we have to carry out the rituals properly and pray and ask forgiveness from the soul* so that it does not carry these negative emotions like hurts, hatred, anger, etc at least from the near and dear ones. I recommend doing a hooponopono (an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness) for 15 minutes daily for 21 days from the day of death. *All these rituals, prayers act like food for the soul which help it in its onward journey.* At the end of the tunnel, it sees a huge bright light signifying the entry in the astral world.

*Meeting the Ancestors*

On the 11th and then the 12th day in Hindus there are homas and rituals through which *the soul is united with its ancestors, close friends, relatives, and the guides.* It's actually the same thing which happens on the upper plane. After the 12th day, all the passed away ancestors welcome the soul to the upper plane and they greet and hug them exactly as we do here on seeing our family members after a long time. The soul then along with its guides are taken for goes through a life review of the life just completed on earth in the presence of the *Great Karmic Board.* It's here in the pure light that it's shown the whole past life.

*Life Review*

There is no judge, there is no God here. *He judges himself, the way he judged others in his lifetime.* He asks for revenge for people who troubled him in that life, he experiences guilt for all wrongdoings he did to people and *asks for self-punishment to learn that lesson.* Based on this *a complete life structure is created by the soul himself, called the blueprint. All the incidents to be faced, all problems to be faced, all challenges to be overcome are written by us in this agreement.* In fact *we choose all minute details like age, person, circumstances for all incidents to be faced by us.* Eg:- a person had a severe headache in his present birth, whatever he tried nothing worked, no medicines, no way out. When he did a past life regression he saw in the previous birth he had killed a person with a huge stone by hitting and smashing his head. In the life review, when he saw this he became very guilty and asked for the same pain which the other person suffered to be experienced by him and decided he will have a never-ending headache in this life. One more experience I would like to share is of my friend’s wife Prerna. She was suffering from asthma for a very long time. Once during a past life regression session, she saw she was the daughter of a farmer, who incidentally is her father in this birth too. They had 2 cows who used to graze their fields. When she was around 8-10 years old, she used to take the cows in the fields and beat them with the stick to get an enjoyable ride. This gave her pleasure but the cows used to feel breathless on running so fast to avoid her beating. In the life review, she asked this same breathlessness to come to her in the form of asthma, which she suffered in this lifetime.

*Blueprint*

*This is the way we judge ourselves and in guilt ask for punishment.* One point to note here is that many say you will have to face 10 times or 20 times of what you did. That’s not true, depending on *the amount of guilt in the soul, it will ask for punishment of suffering.* If it has more guilt, then for some trouble he gave for 5 months to someone, he will ask for 2 years of suffering. Hence its always said, *clear your emotions, because it’s the same thing we carry forward to the other side too.* Once this review is done our whole blueprint of the next life is formed, then there is *a cooling period.*

*The re-birth*

We are born depending on what *we have asked for in the agreement.* it can take 20-30 years or even more also for a rebirth. *We choose our parents* and enter the mother's womb either at the time of egg formation or during the 4-5th month or sometimes even at the last moment just before birth. The universe is so perfect, so beautifully designed that the time, place of birth constitutes our horoscope, which actually is a blueprint of this life. Most of us feel that our stars are bad, we are unlucky, in actual *they just mirror your agreement.* Once we are reborn, for around 40 days the baby remembers its past life and laughs and cries itself without anyone forcing it to. The memory of the past life is completely cut after this and we experience life as though we did not exist in the past.

*The agreement starts..*

It's here that we are completely in the earth plane and *the contract comes into full effect.* We then blame God/ people for our difficult situations and curse God for giving us such a difficult life. So, *next time before pointing to the Divine, understand that it's just helping us complete and honor our agreement* which is fully and completely written by us. Whatever we have asked for and pre-decided we are getting. *Friends, relatives, foes, parents, spouses all have been selected by us in the blueprint and come in our lives based on this agreement. They are just playing their parts and are merely actors in this film written, produced and directed by us.*

*Do the Dead need healing/ prayers/protection?*

*The dead always need serious healings and prayers for a variety of reasons, the most important one being not to be earthbound, that is stuck up in the earth plane itself.* There are many reasons for the soul to be earthbound like unfinished business, excessive grief, trauma on death, sudden death, fear of moving on the astral plane, guilt, one of the most important being improper finishing of rituals, etc. The soul feels it needs a little more time to wait and finish and move. This keeps them hovering in the earth plane itself. But alas, the time is limited. Its very very important that they cross over in the 12 days to their astral plane of existence, moreover as the entry for them to the astral world closes a few days after this.

Earthbound spirits lead a very miserable existence as they are neither in their actual plane nor in a body to lead an earthly life. They may not be negative or harmful but they are stuck up. Hence healings and our *prayers are of utmost importance* during this period so that the departed soul crosses over to the designated astral plane peacefully. In the Hindu religion, it said not to visit temples and worship during these 12 days. But *prayers are very much necessary by the whole family to help the dead.* One more very important aspect to be updated with is *the protection of the soul.* Like we keep a small pen knife/ nail cutter as protection from evil spirits under the baby’s pillow, *we need to protect the dead also to reach its destination- the astral world safe and sound.* So, *protection, prayers, healings are all extremely essential in these days, to say the least.* This is the least we can do for our loved ones, who gave all they could in our lifetimes.

Please *DO NOT TAKE DEATH LIGHTLY.* Today at least around 20% of the souls are stuck up on the earth plane due to various such factors.

*Finally, for someone who has lost a near and dear one, don’t feel sad.*

*‘ We don’t die, we live on, death does not end it, its just a little break before we meet again .'*

As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth, and then to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change.”

(Bhagavad-gita 2.13)

Nataraja (The lord of dance) is a depiction of the Hindu god Shiva as the cosmic ecstatic dancer. His dance is called Tandavam or Nadanta, depending on the context of the dance. The pose and artwork is described in many Hindu texts such as the Anshumadbhed agama and Uttarakamika agama, the dance relief or idol featured in all major Hindu temples of Shaivism.

The classical form of the depiction appears in stone reliefs, as at the Ellora Caves and the Badami Caves, by around the 6th-century. Around the 10th century, it emerged in Tamil Nadu in its mature and best-known expression in Chola bronzes, of various heights typically less than four feet, some over. The Nataraja reliefs have been identified in historic artwork from many parts of South Asia, in southeast Asia such as in Bali, Cambodia, and in central Asia.

It typically shows Shiva dancing in one of the Natya Shastra poses, holding Agni (fire) in his left back hand, the front hand in gajahasta (elephant hand) or dandahasta (stick hand) mudra, the front right hand with a wrapped snake that is in abhaya (fear not) mudra while pointing to a Sutra text, and the back hand holding a musical instrument, usually a damaru. His body, fingers, ankles, neck, face, head, ear lobes and dress are shown decorated with symbolic items, which vary with historic period and region. He is surrounded by a ring of flames, standing on a lotus pedestal, lifting his left leg (or in rare cases, the right leg) and balancing over a demon shown as a dwarf (Apasmara or Mulakaya) who symbolizes ignorance. The dynamism of the energetic dance is depicted with the whirling hair which spread out in thin strands as a fan behind his head.

One of earliest known Nataraja artworks has been found in the archaeological site at Asanapat village in Odisha, which includes an inscription, and is dated to about the 6th century CE. The Asanapat inscription also mentions a Shiva temple in the Saivacaryas kingdom. Literary evidences shows that the bronze representation of Shiva's ananda-tandava appeared first in the Pallava period between 7th century and mid-9th centuries CE.

Stone reliefs depicting the classical form of Nataraja are found in numerous cave temples of India, such as the Ellora Caves (Maharashtra), the Elephanta Caves, and the Badami Caves (Karnataka), by around the 6th-century. Archaeological discoveries have yielded a red Nataraja sandstone statue, from 9th to 10th century from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, now held at the Gwalior Archaeological Museum. Similarly, Nataraja artwork has been found in archaeological sites in the Himalayan region such as Kashmir, albeit in with somewhat different dance pose and iconography, such as just two arms or with eight arms. In medieval era artworks and texts on dancing Shiva found in Nepal, Assam and Bengal, he is sometimes shown as dancing on his vahana (animal vehicle) Nandi, the bull; further, he is regionally known as Narteshvara. Nataraja artwork have also been discovered in Gujarat, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

The oldest three-dimensional stone sculptures of Nataraja were built by Chola queen Sembiyan Mahadevi. Nataraja gained special significance and became a symbol of royalty in Tamil Nadu. The dancing Shiva became a part of Chola era processions and religious festivals, a practice that continued thereafter.

The depiction was informed of cosmic or metaphysical connotations is also argued on the basis of the testimony of the hymns of Tamil saints.

In the contemporary Hindu culture of Bali in Indonesia, Siwa (Shiva) Nataraja is the god who created dance. Siwa and his dance as Nataraja was also celebrated in the art of Java Indonesia when Hinduism thrived there, while in Cambodia he was referred to as Nrittesvara.

In 2004, a 2m statue of the dancing Shiva was unveiled at CERN, the European Center for Research in Particle Physics in Geneva. The statue, symbolizing Shiva's cosmic dance of creation and destruction, was given to CERN by the Indian government to celebrate the research center's long association with India. A special plaque next to the Shiva statue explains the significance of the metaphor of Shiva's cosmic dance with quotations from Fritjof Capra:

Nataraja is celebrated in 108 poses of Bharatanatyam, with Sanskrit inscriptions from Natya Shastra, at the Nataraja temple in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India.

Amazing Scientific Reasons Behind Why You Should Visit Hindu Temples...

India is known for it’s rich Hindu culture and tradition. There are hundred’s of mesmerizing Hindu temples across the country in different design, shape, locations; but not all temples are built as described in Vedic literature. Paying visit to the temples are not only to get blessing but to get a calm and better mind set. The following 10 scientific reasons are the actual purpose of visiting the temple according to the Hindu script.

The Location And Structure Of The Temples...

Temples are found deliberately at a place where the positive energy is available abundantly from the the magnetic and electric wave conveyances of north/south post push. The idol of God is set in the core center of the temple, known as “Garbhagriha” or “Moolasthanam”. Ideally, the structure of the temple is built after the idol has been placed in a high positive wave centric place. This *moolasthanam* is the place where earth’s magnetic waves are discovered to be most extreme.

Temples are the place that contains pure vibrations of magnetic and electric fields with positive energy. In olden days, temples were built in such a way that the floor at the center of the temple were good conductors of these positive vibrations allowing them to pass through our feet to the body. Hence it is necessary to walk bare footed while you enter the core center of the temple.

The inner core of the temple is usually dark where the idol is placed. You usually close your eyes to pray and when you open your eyes you should see the camphor which was lit to do the Aarthi in front of the idol. This light seen inside the dark activates your sight sense.

Only specific flowers are used for offering to God like rose petals, jasmine, marigold based on different factors, amongst them fragrance is most important. The fragrance of the flower, camphor and instance sticks all together have the strong essence to keep your smell sense active and pleasant giving calmness to the mind.

The next part of your act would be to drink theertham ideally from a silver or a copper vessel. The water used for theertham usually would contain Thulasi leaves dipped in water and must be stored at least for eight hours in the copper vessel. According to Ayurveda, water stored in a copper vessel has the ability to balance all the three doshas in your body, (vata, kapha and pitta) and it does so by positively charging the water. By drinking this Thulasi water you activate the taste sense.

Finally, after performing all the above rituals you have to walk around the idol inside the Garbhagirha, the inner most chamber of temple in clockwise direction for nine times. Pradakshina literary means right side in Sanskrit. The idol inside the Garbhagriha absorbs all the energy from the bell sound, camphor heat and vibrates the positive energy within the Garbhagriha for a certain duration of time. When you do the pradakshina at this point of time, you tend to absorb all these positive vibrations once your five senses are activated.

On the forehead, between the two eyebrows, is a spot that is considered as a major nerve point in human body since ancient times. The Tilak is believed to prevent the loss of “energy”, the red ‘kumkum’ between the eyebrows is said to retain energy in the human body and control the various levels of concentration. While applying kumkum the points on the mid-brow region and Adnya-chakra are automatically pressed. This also facilitates the blood supply to the face muscles.

Coconut and Banana are the only two fruits in this world which are considered to be “Sacred fruits". In the case of coconut and banana, the shell or the sleeves is not used for anything. To grow a coconut tree, you have to sow the entire coconut itself and Banana tree grows with the sampling. This is the reason why Coconut and Banana has an important place in all religious activities. Our Ancestors had found this reality long ago and they had made it as a system which is still followed religiously.

The positive energy in the temple is absorbed properly only if you ensure that all five senses are activated in your body while you are in the temple. Also the place of worship is said to be pleased only if your five senses are pleased.

యజ్ఞోపవీతం, ‘బ్రహ్మసూత్రం’ - జంధ్యం విశిష్ఠత... Amazing Facts

In Hindu iconography, Mukhalinga or Mukhalingam (literally "linga with a face", mukhaliṅga) is a linga with one or more human faces. The linga is an aniconic representation of the Hindu god Shiva. Mukhalingas may be of stone or can be made of a metal sheath, which covers the normal linga.

The mukhalinga generally has one, four or five faces. Mukhalingas having four faces are also regarded to have an invisible fifth face at the top of the linga. The four- and five-faced mukhalingas represent the five aspects of Shiva, which also relate to the classical elements and the cardinal directions.

The omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient God Siva for facilitating the individual souls to worship him has manifested himself into different forms.Among them the formless form of Sivalinga is classified as "Nishkala". And the Shivalingas with the head of Shiva on their face are called as Mukhalinga and are classified as "Sakala nishkala" form.

The iconography and making of the mukhalinga is prescribed in the Agamas and the Tantras. These sculptured lingas fall under the classification of manusha-linga ("man-made lingas"), the other category being Swayambhu or naturally occurring lingas. A manusha-linga has three parts: the Brahma-bhaga, the lowest part of the linga which is a square platform; Vishnu-bhaga - the middle section of the linga with a pedestal or pitha and Rudra-bhaga, the topmost part of the central shaft with a rounded tip. Mukhalinga should be sarvasama ("all-equal"), where the three parts are equal. On the topmost rudra-bhaga or puja-bhaga, one face and a maximum of five faces may be carved. If the sanctum (garbhagriha) has only one door, then the linga should have only one face on the front (the east), facing the door. In case of two doors, it should have two faces - front and back - facing the doors in the east and the west. In case of three doors, the linga should have three faces, except in the west. When the shrine has four doors, the linga may have four or five faces. The four faces should face the doors in the four cardinal directions; in addition if a fifth face exists, it should be carved on the top and face the front, the east. When mukhalinga is four-faced, instead of only faces, the busts of the deities are carved on the four side; each having two arms.

The stone mukhalingas may be depicted comprising just of the central shaft, but may be part of the full assemble, where the shaft is embedded in the pitha pedestal, denoting the yoni, the female se*ual organ.

The five-faced mukhalinga is called pancha-mukhalinga. The five faces relate Shiva to the classical elements, the directions, the five senses and five parts of the body. These represent Shiva's five aspects: Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Ishana. A four-faced linga is said also to represent the five aspects of Shiva, the fifth aspect is center, the shaft itself or is assumed to be emerging from the top of the shaft and denotes the formless Absolute. Thus, a four-faced mukhalinga can be also called a pancha-mukhalinga ("linga with five faces" of Shiva). These four-faced lingas are the most commonly found mukhalingas.

The 13th Century A.D. pancha mukha sivalinga is in Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh. The fifth face would not be shown to highlight the Nishkala character of Sivalinga.

The top face is known as Ishana or Sadashiva, who is rarely depicted and governs zenith and the sky (Akasha). The east face is Sadyojata or Mahadeva, the regent of the earth (Prithvi). The west face is Tatpurusha or Nandi (Shiva's bull mount) or Nandivaktra (the face of Nandi), denoting the wind, Vayu. While Vamadeva or Uma (Parvati, Shiva's consort) or Umavaktra (the face of Parvati) or Tamreshvara (water, Ap) faces north, Aghora or Bhairava looks south (fire, Agni). In some texts, the east face is called Tatpurusha and the western one Sadyojata. The icon of the five aspects represents the entire universe.

Mukhalingas are found throughout India and Nepal. They also appear in the former Champa kingdom, presently in Vietnam as well as Cambodia and Borneo in the south east Asia and Afghanistan to the west of India. One of earliest specimen of a mukhalinga is a five-faced one in Bhita, which is dated to second century BCE.

The Significance of Rahu and Ketu in Vedic Astrology...

In Hindu astrology, Rahu and Ketu signify the two mathematical points on each side of the moon that have a significant impact on self-experience. The Significance of Rahu and Ketu in Vedic Astrology is realized positively and negatively in a person’s life. As a rising node of the moon, Rahu is known to cause spiritual growth and whenever it exists in a chart; the result is luxury and obsession. It’s a powerful node favorable to politicians as it presents opportunities and immense power to ascend in political affairs both justly and unjustly. Rahu also influences criminals, snakes as well as magicians just to mention a few. Rahu has the power to give wealth and make a person popular.

At the same time, this shadow planet is likely to cause confusion, despair and emotional inequity. It’s very powerful in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses of a horoscope. Ketu is a shadowy, descending and malefic planet but not as malefic as Rahu. Ketu offers liberation and nonattachment to material desires and worldly ambitions. It provides spiritual knowledge, power to differentiate, self-knowledge as well as wisdom. Whenever present in a chart, it gives a person psychic abilities. A person can perform natural healing, deal with ghosts, evil spirits, and astral forces as well as make them wizards of foods, herbs and spices. Ketu enables a person to blend in naturally among people.

If Ketu is favorably placed in a horoscope, it brings intuition, luxury and wisdom but an unfavorable placement in a horoscope causes destruction. It makes a person devious, obsessive, awful and compelling. Ketu favors doctors, magicians, medical parishioners and astrologers as a result of their religious influence on the birth chart. Ketu empowers a person with great spiritual accomplishments. Such a person is religious, bent towards supernatural powers and other spirit related matters. Just like a ‘drug dealer’ Rahu provides in a way that makes you dependent which eventually leads to your doom. Rahu causes a hunger that must be fed despite the damage it causes. It’s the hunger that a workaholic, serial killer and addict have in common. Rahu has a way of pushing a person into taboo related areas like cults, occultism, witchcraft and astrology just to mention a few. Areas where hidden aspects and deception thrives like secret societies, scientists, mysteries and drugs are greatly influenced by Rahu. Both Ketu and Rahu have similar association for animals like scorpions, rodents, snakes, wolves and camels.

The Significance of Rahu and Ketu in Vedic Astrology explains the reason behind broken relationships, theft, gambling, death and alterations of events as well as occurrence of accidents. As much as these nodes are not visible in the solar system like other planets, they have a huge impact on human lives in different measurements. A professional astrologer with in-depth knowledge concerning these nodes and their impact can recommend remedies. These remedies are aimed at helping you navigate through different stages of life productively. Additionally, you can benefit from astrology software in addition to other products and services designed to offer value to your money, time and energy.

The Science behind CHAKRAS

What are they? Do they really exist? What do they mean for us? Is it just a load of baloney? What’s the science behind them? How do they benefit us? What’s so special about them anyway?

There is much controversy associated with the existence of CHAKRAS. Many consider them to be a theory with no real backbone. Some believe they are the source of our wellbeing. And others even believe they are the key to enable our spiritual connection to the Universe.

So what are the Chakras?

Chakras were first described in the Hindu Scriptures (The Vedas) thousands of years ago, and literally means ‘wheels‘ of energy. They predominantly deal with energy flow in the body and are said to be focused areas (or vortices) of high, expansive energy, within multiple locations in the body.

There are thought to be 114 Chakras within the body in total, but 7 main Chakras spanning from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, and are considered to follow the curvature of the spine. Connected to these Chakras, there are said to be Nadis (literally translates to RIVERS in Sanskrit). These Nadis are considered to be the vessels through which energy flows, from the chakras to the rest of the body.

‘Everything is Energy’. This is a widely accepted theory in Quantum Physics and a scientifically proven fact.  In religion and spirituality, the movement of energy is the central, and fundamental, core around which many traditions are based. Ancient practices such as Reiki, QiGong and Tai Chi focus on the manipulation of energy to achieve well being.

We like to think of space as empty and matter as solid. But in fact there is nothing to matter when you look at it at a subatomic level, most of what is contained within an atom for example is 99.9% space. It is mostly unsubstantial.

Everything connects via magnetic energy and is electrical energy.

All matter is held together via energetic bonds and consist of these atoms, of which most, is space. The movement of energy is vital to life. When we think, breathe, function or even when we are resting, electrical energy is flowing through our bodies via our neurones and nerve pathways.

The position of the major chakras correspond to the major nerve plexus’ or nerve ‘bundles’.

Remember: A lot of these ancient traditions came from primitive understandings of biology and therefore a degree of flexibility is necessary when trying to understand the significance of their teachings!

By far, the most energetic processes within our bodies are caused by our nerve tissues and specifically our nervous system. The nervous system is that part of our body, that coordinates its voluntary and involuntary actions, and transmits signals to and from different parts of the body and brain. The ‘communication‘ of the body, if you will.

The nervous system is composed of two main parts:

The Central Nervous System (CNS) within the brain and spinal cord, and The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), which connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body, via little ‘river‘ like nerve fibres (Nadis!). This system is what correlates with the chakras.

There are different categories of nerve bundles within the PNS, but the most relevant to the Chakras is the AUTONOMIC nervous system of the PNS. This deals with the involuntary or automatic responses within the body.

The Autonomic Nervous System is further divided into the Sympathetic Nervous System (activated in emergencies to move energy, the ‘fight and flight’ responses) and the Parasympathetic Nervous system (activated when ‘resting and digesting’).

It is the Parasympathetic Nervous System (part of the automatic nerve response system) which has the greatest relevance to the areas where the Chakras are thought to be located.

Hormones are critical players in the body’s chemistry and stimulated by the Vagus nerve.

The Biology in a nutshell:

The Chakras are associated with the major nerve networks within the body, which connect from the brain/spine, via the major Vagus nerve, to the glands responsible for hormone production and the functioning of the body in general.

Naga in Sanskrit means mountain, people residing in and around mountains are known as Pahadi or Naga. The history of Naga Sadhus is very old, the traces of legacy are found in Mohenjo-daro coins and images where Naga Sadhus are shown worshiping Bhagwan Shiv in Pashupatinath form. Alexandar and his soldiers also met Naga Sadhus during their stay in India. Buddha and Mahavir were impressed to see the penance of Naga Sadhus, their devotion for the people and motherland. Jainese Digambar tradition has roots to Naga rituals.

During invasion of mlecchas (mughals), there were series of attacks on the Sanatan Dharmis and Hindu structures, at that point of time, a massive exercise was carried over by Naga Sadhus to organize their strength and form Akhadas so that they all fight under one Saffron flag to protect Hindu culture and Vedic tradition of India.

The Rules and Rituals of Becoming Naga Sadhu

A person who is interested in pursuing a life of Naga Sadhu, he should have complete control over his lust, s*xual feelings and er*tic libido. Practising Brahmacharya is not limited to only physical body but also on moral values. Mentally a person should renounce material wealth and desire for worldly things. First such person is tested rigorously on the norms of Brahmacharya then it is ensured that he attained self-control, he is admitted in the group for training to become Naga. This permission to become Naga is known as Diksha but there are many other conditions which need to be fulfilled before the permission is given.

A person who attained control over his senses is of no use if he does not have love for the Bhagwan, people and country. Ego-centered person is liability on society and country. He cannot be trusted to perform Rashtra Dharm. Servicing and following orders of his Guru help the person in removing self-ego. Selfless bhakti sows the seed of developing human loving nature to protect people and country. Youth (age:16 to 18) belonging to Varna system: Brahman, Vaishya, Kshatriya and Shudra come forward to serve the country as Naga Sadhus. There is no restriction for anyone provided he is ready to undergo immense penance offered in the process of achieving Naga position.

It is very important to perform last rites, considering himself dead for the family and society. It is like new birth of a person in a new world of Nagas. The last rites, Pind Daan and Shraddh are performed by the individual himself, relinquishing his connection with the family members and friends. After this, Guru gives him new name and identity.

The responsibility and authority of Naga Sadhus are based on their designations. As years pass by, the responsibility of Naga Sadhu becomes more significant. Designation with greater authority in ascending order.

In recent years, there are hordes of women who have become Naga Sadhus. They enroll in Akhada and undergo the same tiresome process to become Naga Sadhvi. Impressed with the culture and tradition of connecting with Bhagwan Shiv thereby serving people, women from several countries flock to Akhadas to become Naga Sadhvis. The rules are almost same...

Were the ancients more advanced?
Mythological stories are normally treated as a literature material or sometimes a science fiction. But there is a huge possibility that mythological stories in any religion may not merely be a legend or a piece of literature. In this blog, I would discuss some unbelievable correlation between some Hindu mythological stories and well established scientific facts. Take a look…

Strange Narrations in Mahabharata
There are certain narrations in Mahabharata that defies any rational explanations. Some examples are explanations about flying vehicles (Vimanas), Arjuna's travels in a flying chariot across the Himalayas, his visit of the Deva territories (ancient alien base-camp in Tibet?), his battle with the Nivata Kavachas (men in space-suits?), Salwa's attack of the city of Dwaraka in a flying city named Saubha, the triple space-cities of Asuras that revolved around Earth in three circular orbits that was destroyed by Siva using a single projectile weapon, and many more…
